Face Liberty, TENT, december 2012
This performance followed the lecture From Performing Arts to Art Performance , in the context of the event Peek in the TENT which was initiated by Madhuja Mukherjee and Avik Mukhopadyay. The conference started with some extracts of a poem of Eluard : « Liberty », the first poem which marked my relation with poetry. In relation to this poem, i proposed some action in homage to Aye Ko and other artists that i met two weeks before in Myanmar, and to Chaitali. This action was also in reaction to the space where i observed some paradox between the notion of « window » and bars.
I asked to someone in the audience to read aloud the poem « Liberty » of Paul Eluard, went behind bars/windows :
1. To attach a wreath of flowers of jasmine at the first « window »/ bars
2. To work with rubber bands around the face and tong
3. To push my body attached by an elastic attached to bars until the body detaches itself And trying to pronounce the word « Liberty » which comes back regulary in the poem of Paul Eluard. At the end, i came back to the audience space and i asked to a woman in the audience, Madhuja Mukherjee,to deliver the face from elastics.
Thanks to Kunal Sen, Madhuja Mukherjee and Avik Mukhopadyay for the residency at TENT
